The Tillandsia aeranthos purple is native to South America and is one of the most popular air plants. They can be found in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina and are known in the regions as "carnations in the sky." The name aeranthos is a Greek word that translates as "lofty flower" or "air flower." The aeranthos is often hybridized with other varieties to create distinct characteristics they are named for, including aeranthos purple, aeranthos black, etc., which are reflected in the color of the leaves.

A popular attraction for hummingbirds, this variety of tillandsia aeranthos purple has stiff, semi-curly g leaves that grow upwards from a central base. They bloom in the spring and summer in a vibrant pink bud with purple bracts. Easy to propagate, offshoots or "pups" are seen growing after the aeranthos blooms.

The tillandsia aeranthos is one of the easiest air plants to grow and maintain and is ideal for beginners. Mist it regularly and place it where it can receive bright, indirect light.
