Heart Leaf Philodendron
Considered one of the easiest houseplants to care for, the Heart Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron cordatum) is perfect for the beginning indoor gardener. The name philodendron means "love tree" in Greek. The heart-shaped leaves are the source of its names, including the alternative name: "the sweetheart plant." With a limited amount of care and attention, this plant will thrive.
This beautiful vine prefers indirect or diffused sunlight and will thrive in standard potting soil kept moist. As a hearty vine, it is ideal for a hanging planter because the leaves will cascade down like a waterfall.
A houseplant fertilizer will keep it happy along with a prune here and there. Sold in the original nursery container, we highly recommend a new pot to plant your Heart Leaf in so it can grow and thrive. Pots with drain holes and saucers are ideal as they allow the water to drain from the roots, preventing root rot. Take a look at the Gemstone cylinder from Momma Pots or one of the many colorful pots from the Chive Collection. If you purchase a plant and a pot at the same time, our staff will gladly pot up your new container with your new plant.
A word of warning: Be careful around pets and small children because the leaves are poisonous.
Low Light, Shade Tolerant
Not recommended for homes with pets.
